A Creative Week in Early Preschool and Preschool!

Dear Parents,

We had a great week in Early Preschool and Preschool, and we hope yours was just as wonderful! This week, we kicked off our exciting clay project and started our very first canvas artwork. It was a week filled with creativity, teamwork, and exploration. Please enjoy reading about the highlights of our week as we continue to nurture our students’ artistic expression and collaborative spirit.

Large group

In our large group session this week, we gathered in a circle to start the day by sharing our morning experiences. We sang our cheerful good morning song, which always sets a positive tone for the coming activities. After that, we took attendance and discussed the weather, helping the students connect their learning with the world around them. We also talked about the day of the week to reinforce their understanding of time.

For this week’s message board, we focused on shapes. The students learned about various shapes, including circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, ovals, stars, diamonds, and hearts. It was a fun and interactive session, allowing the students to engage with the shapes through discussion and activities.

Small group

Clay

In our clay session, we focused on teamwork and collaboration. We discussed how creating something as a team can bring out creativity and help in problem-solving. To start, we gave each student a piece of paper and crayons to draw their ideas. While most of the students came up with different ideas, three students shared the same vision—they wanted to create a car. After seeing their shared interest, we decided to make a car together.

The students worked closely, exploring different designs, and with the guidance of our clay teacher, they formed a beautiful, detailed car. The students were very engaged throughout the process. Once the body of the car was complete, they eagerly asked, "Where are the wheels? Where are the lights? The windows? The doors?" This showed how involved they were in the project and their attention to detail. It was a great opportunity for them to not only learn about teamwork but also develop their creativity and problem-solving skills while building something they were passionate about.

Art

This week, we kicked off our art sessions in an exciting and interactive way! We began by discussing with the students what they envisioned for their first canvas painting. The students eagerly shared their ideas—some wanted to create cars, books, dinosaurs, butterflies, and so many other creative concepts. For this first canvas, we decided to bring a dinosaur to life. The students were thrilled, and we began by asking them which color they'd like for the background. After much deliberation, they chose a deep, dark blue, setting a perfect tone for our artwork. During this session, we focused solely on painting the background. The children’s energy was infectious, and their enthusiasm made the activity even more enjoyable. It was a joyful and productive time, and we can't wait to see how their ideas unfold in the coming weeks!

Math

In math this week, we focused on a fun sorting activity that helped students work on their color recognition and sorting skills. We prepared different colored cups and matching colored bears. The students used tongs to pick up the bears and place them in the cups that matched their color. This hands-on activity allowed the students to sort the bears according to their colors, making learning both engaging and interactive. The students were very active and fully engaged throughout the activity, showing great enthusiasm as they carefully matched each bear to its corresponding cup. It was a great way to encourage teamwork and enhance their fine motor skills while learning about colors.

Literacy

In our literacy session, our students had the opportunity to express their creativity through journaling. Using their journal books and crayons, they drew a variety of things that were meaningful to them, such as houses, cars, their parents, cats, and even unicorns. Each student shared their unique ideas and thoughts through their drawings, allowing them to explore and communicate their imagination. This activity not only encouraged creativity but also helped develop their fine motor skills as they worked with crayons to bring their ideas to life. It was a wonderful session that highlighted the importance of self-expression in literacy.

Science

In this week's science session, we explored the topic of transportation, focusing on land and air transportation. The students interacted actively throughout the session, participating in discussions and asking questions. To make the learning more engaging, we mixed up flashcards featuring different types of transportation. The students then worked together to sort the cards into two categories: land and air transportation. This hands-on activity helped reinforce their understanding while making learning fun and collaborative. It was an exciting and informative session that allowed the students to connect with the topic in a creative way.
