A week of Engaging, Educational Fun in Early Preschool and Preschool
Dear Parents,
We had an amazing week filled with fun and educational activities in Early Preschool and Preschool. We hope your week was just as wonderful! In this blog, we’ll share the exciting moments and activities your little ones experienced. Enjoy reading through and take a look at some of the pictures capturing their joyful learning moments!
Large group
This week in our large group sessions, we gathered in a circle to share how our mornings went, then took attendance. We discussed the days of the week and talked about the weather for the day. After that, we sang our Good Morning song, which always brings a smile to everyone’s face. For our message board, we focused on magic words—teaching the students how to say "please" when asking for something, "thank you" when receiving, and "sorry" when they make a mistake. The students demonstrated commendable focus, and it was a great time of learning and fun!
Small group
Math
In our math session, we took the learning outdoors for a fun-filled adventure with numbers! We started by counting from 1 to 10, helping the students solidify their number skills. Then, the excitement kicked in as each student picked their favorite color and number to paint on their number cards. The focus and enthusiasm were amazing as they worked, enjoying every moment of creativity. Once they finished, they were so eager to keep going that they asked us to switch to another number card. It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning, and fresh air!
Literacy
In our latest literacy session, we had an invigorating time exploring Zoophonics! We started by discussing the sounds, actions, and motions of each letter, making the learning feel lively. The fun continued as we gave the students flashcards and different colors of playdough. They used the playdough to trace the letters, which was not only a great hands-on activity but also helped reinforce their learning in a creative way. The students loved every moment of it, and the room was filled with energy and excitement as they traced and shaped the letters. It was a fun, memorable literacy session for everyone!
Ethiopian Center
At the Ethiopian Center, our students recently had a wonderful opportunity to dive into Ethiopia’s rich cultural traditions. They explored a variety of Ethiopian musical instruments, including the drum and guitar, learning the sounds that make Ethiopian music so unique. Some students even embraced the culture by wearing traditional Ethiopian clothing, proudly showcasing the beauty of the nation’s attire. In a fun and engaging activity, several students acted out the preparation of traditional Ethiopian coffee, sharing the beloved coffee ceremony with their friends and teachers. It was a delightful experience that allowed everyone to learn more about Ethiopia’s music, fashion, and coffee culture in a hands-on and interactive way.
Gymnastics
Our gymnastics session this week was full of energy and balance! We started with a good warm-up to get our bodies ready for action. After warming up, we sang a fun moving song to get everyone in the groove. We took a quick water break to stay hydrated, and then it was time to work on our balancing skills. We spent time practicing on the balancing board, focusing on our concentration and stability. It was a fun and productive session, and everyone had a great time improving their balance! We are eagerly looking forward to the next one!
Science
Before starting the activity, we introduced the materials to the students: corn flour, food color, and water. Each student was given an individual paper plate, a cup of corn flour, and a few drops of food coloring. They added the food color to the corn flour, and then slowly added water to the mixture. As the students mixed the ingredients, they observed how the texture changed and how the mixture reacted when they held it in their hands. The corn flour mixture transformed into a fascinating, moldable substance that melted when touched. The children were excited to feel the substance change consistency right before their eyes and were very active and happy throughout the activity. The hands-on experience helped them learn about the properties of materials and the science of mixtures in a fun and engaging way!
