Amazing Adventures This Week in Early Preschool and Preschool!
Dear Parents,
We hope you had a fantastic week! We’re excited to share that we had an amazing week in both Early Preschool and Preschool. From engaging activities to heartwarming moments, each day was filled with joy and learning. As a reminder, next week on Thursday (October 17) and Friday (October 18) school will be closed for staff training.
Large group
In our large group session, we had a wonderful time engaging with our students and fostering a sense of community. The morning began with a warm greeting, as we gathered together to discuss our plans for the day. To set a cheerful tone, we kicked off the session by singing our beloved "Good Morning" song. After our song, we moved on to taking attendance, then we explored the days of the week and the current weather. This interactive discussion allows students to connect their daily experiences with what they learn, making the concepts more relatable and engaging. Our session culminated with a reading of the heartwarming book "How Much Do You Love Me?" This story sparked delightful conversations among the students. We asked them to share how much they love their parents, encouraging them to express their feelings in their own unique ways. It was touching to hear their responses, filled with love and creativity.
Art
In our recent art session, we embarked on a fun and engaging hand print activity. We began the session by providing each student with a piece of brown paper and a pencil. The students practiced tracing their hands, focusing on the details of their fingers and palms. Once they were comfortable with tracing, we introduced scissors for the next step. Each student carefully cut out their hand shapes, and we made sure to offer assistance whenever it was needed.
Next, we provided white A4 paper and glue. Students enthusiastically stuck their hand cutouts onto the white paper, creating a beautiful canvas for their art. This step allowed them to experiment with composition and placement, making each artwork unique. To finish their pieces, students selected their favorite paints. Using their index fingers, they tapped and dotted the paint around their handprints, creating vibrant patterns and designs. This finger-painting technique not only added texture but also allowed for a playful exploration of colors.
Science
This week, our science session focused on a crucial topic: dental hygiene, specifically the importance of taking care of our teeth. We discussed how brushing our teeth not only keeps our smiles bright but also plays a vital role in overall health. To make learning fun and interactive, we prepared a hands-on activity. We provided students with laminated pictures of dirty teeth and toothbrushes, along with water and toothpaste.
This exercise allowed them to practice brushing techniques and see the immediate impact of proper dental care. Students eagerly scrubbed away the “plaque,” learning the correct motions and the importance of brushing every part of their teeth. It was a fantastic way to reinforce the lessons on dental hygiene while keeping everyone engaged.
Math
In our recent math session, we explored the concept of sorting through a fun and interactive color sorting activity. This hands-on experience not only introduced students to various color types but also helped them develop critical thinking and organizational skills. We began the session by discussing what sorting means. Sorting is the process of grouping items based on shared characteristics—in this case, color. We engaged the students in a conversation about different colors, encouraging them to identify and describe their favorite hues.
After our discussion, we moved on to the hands-on part of the lesson. We mixed various colored item soft blocks and paper pieces—together in a container. The students were then tasked with sorting these items by color. They excitedly dove into the activity, grouping the items into different colored sections. Once the items were sorted, we asked the students to count how many pieces they had in each color group. This not only reinforced their counting skills but also introduced them to basic data analysis.
Literacy
In our literacy session this week, we focused on nurturing creativity through journaling. Each student brought their journal book and their favorite colors, excited to express their thoughts and ideas through drawings.
As the students began to draw, it was wonderful to see their imaginations come to life.
Ami shared his creativity with a delightful drawing of a bubble, capturing the essence of fun and playfulness.
Joshua depicted his favorite place—his mommy's house—showing his appreciation for home and family.
Lubono made a big splash with his drawing of a large car, showcasing his love for vehicles and adventure.
This journaling activity not only allowed the students to express themselves artistically but also encouraged them to share their thoughts verbally. Each student took a moment to explain their drawings, fostering confidence and communication skills.
