Blog for Pre-k!
Dear Parents, It was a week that made our kids joyful! We hope you had a great week too! As we are going to celebrate family day on Saturday, the week passed with very interesting and engaging educational activities focused on family.
Large group
We had a wonderful time during our large group. They played with their free choice materials, sang their favorite song “Down by the Bay" and other fun action songs to enhance their listening skills and body coordination. . They shared what they enjoyed doing on their weekend and about their friends and family. We also did our circle time, working on the calendar, counting, and feeding the Caterpillar. We also read their favorite book which talks about family.
Music and Movement
This week in Music and Movement class, our kids danced to the songs ‘Action song for kids’ and ‘Elephants have wrinkles.’ Everyone was so engaged and had fun doing the actions; clap, stomp, swing, jump, shake etc. Moving to music encourages learning, brain development, balance, and motor skills. They were all happy and excited when doing the actions.
Journal
For journal, our children were drawing what they did on their weekend. They were happy and delighted to draw their house, family members and friends. Later they shared their journal stories. For instance, Joy said, “This is my house, my window and door.” Oliver also added “This is my little sister, my mom and me.” We all got to see their artistic skills and creativity.
Gymnastics
On Gymnastics our kids did balancing on a gymnastic ball and front flips on a mini bar. This exercise increases flexibility, balance, and physical development. But most importantly, the children were cheerful and happy to do the activity. By the end of the exercise, we saw how much more confident they became. They took multiple turns and still wanted to do more. We all shared a wonderful time together with our children.
Science
Our topic for science this week was about taking care of plants. We discussed about sunlight, watering, pruning and the things we do that hurt plants. Our children also shared how they take care of their own plants at home. They were all very active to share their thoughts and ideas.
Math
For Math we did exercises that helps our children to recognize and count numbers 10 up to 20. Counting numbers helps children to learn words for numbers, identify and understand the right sequence for numbers. Our children were motivated and engaged during the activity.
