Creativity and Activity in Toddlers Class!

Dear Parents,

We hope this message finds you well and that you're having a wonderful week! As we head into the next two weeks, we wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates from our recent sessions. It’s been a fun and creative time for the students.

This blog will cover the activities we've been doing in class. We hope you’ll enjoy reading about the creativity and teamwork that your children have been engaging in! We look forward to sharing all the wonderful progress and accomplishments from these past weeks. Also, family day is right around the corner on tomorrow, Saturday March 22. We hope to see you all there!

Large Group

Our large group session was fun, engaging, and amazing as always. We started by greeting each other and chatting about the weather, different kinds of food, and family members. This helped everyone feel comfortable and connected right from the beginning. Afterward, we sang the "Hello" song, which is always a big hit with the students and gets them excited to start the day. The song creates a positive, energetic vibe that sets the tone for the rest of the session.

Once the excitement settled down, we took attendance, and then we moved on to our reading time. We read a book called “Little Lion Share”. The story really resonated with the group, and we used it as a great opportunity to discuss the concept of sharing. The students shared their own experiences about times they’ve shared with others, and it sparked some really thoughtful conversations about kindness and generosity. It was a great way to wrap up our time together, leaving everyone with a sense of understanding and community.

Gymnastics

Our gymnastics session was a fun and exciting race! We started by leaving the classroom and introducing the activity. Before we began, we demonstrated what to do, and explained that their cue is when we say "ready, steady, go!" For the first round, all the children ran together. Afterward, we divided the group into four teams to compete against each other. Once the race was finished, we awarded medals to each child. The moment was truly exciting, especially when the children's names were called, and everyone clapped, showing appreciation for their friends' efforts. It was a happy moment filled with encouragement and support for one another.

Science: Cleaning Teeth

Our science activity continued with a focus on hygiene, specifically on cleaning teeth. We asked the children to bring their toothbrushes and toothpaste from home, which helped make the experience more personal and engaging. Before we started, we discussed the importance of good oral hygiene and how it helps us maintain healthy teeth and gums. We also talked about how brushing teeth helps keep our breath fresh.

To make the activity more interactive, we demonstrated the proper way to brush teeth, including the right amount of toothpaste to use, how to brush in small circles, and how long to brush for (at least two minutes). The children watched carefully.

Then, each child had a turn to clean their teeth, applying what they had learned. It was fun to watch them excitedly practice brushing and take turns helping each other. It was great to see them engaged and excited to practice hygiene in a hands-on way.

Afterward, we discussed the importance of brushing teeth twice a day and the role of eating healthy foods in keeping teeth strong. We also reminded them that regular visits to the dentist are essential for maintaining good oral health.

Overall, it was a fun and educational session where the children not only learned about the science of teeth cleaning but also developed good habits that will last a lifetime. Everyone left with a big smile on their face!

Art

During our art session, we focused on painting a watermelon using pink and red colors. Over the past two weeks, we have been exploring various colors on canvas, and for this activity, we decided to let the children choose their own colors. Most of them picked pink and red, so we decided to proceed with these colors for painting the watermelon on paper.

Before we began, we made sure each child put on their art smocks to keep their clothes clean. Then, we set up a piece of paper for each child and provided them with a brush and pink paint. The children eagerly dipped their brushes into the paint and began to carefully apply it to their paper. We made sure to place a strip of tape in the middle of the paper to guide the children and help them separate the colors to avoid mixing.

Once the pink paint was applied, we gave each child red paint, which they used to paint the outer part of the watermelon, continuing the fun process. To complete the look of the watermelon, we encouraged the children to dip their fingers in black paint to create the seeds, adding a realistic touch to their artwork.

It was wonderful to see how each child approached the activity in their unique way, experimenting with the colors and making the watermelon come to life. The children enjoyed the freedom to choose their colors, and it was exciting to see their creativity bloom. The end result was a collection of vibrant watermelon paintings that showcased their artistic skills and imagination.

Overall, it was a fun and colorful art session where the children not only learned about colors but also had a great time experimenting and creating their own watermelon masterpieces!

Literacy Session: Enhancing Communication Skills

Our literacy session focused on improving communication skills, where we took the children from the classroom to a café center. The café center helps children communicate with their friends, ask questions, and listen and respond to others. We observed significant progress in their communication abilities during this session.

Upon arrival, we introduced the center and asked the children what they wanted to be when they were in the center. Some said cashier, others said buyer, and there were various other responses. We took turns guiding them through different activities, including a supermarket setup. The children selected items and practiced exchanging money by paying the cashier using Birr. Some of them also pretended to eat in the café!
