Creativity, Taking on Challenges, and More in Early Pre K!
Dear parents,
We hope you’ve had an amazing week! In our Early Pre-K class, your little explorers dove into a week brimming with discovery, learning, and growth. Through engaging, hands-on activities, they delved into the fascinating worlds of science, literacy, and art, all while honing their cognitive, physical, and social skills. Read on to discover the exciting highlights of your child’s week!
Large Group
Over the past week, our Early Pre-K large group sessions were filled with excitement and learning! This week, we focused on the letter ”a”, exploring its sound and expanding vocabulary with words that start with ”a”. During morning message time, the children practiced drawing a circle on the board, taking turns to showcase their developing skills.
In math, we introduced the numbers “3”, and the class had a blast counting objects and showing their three fingers on top of identifying the number. We also revisited the 2D shape circle, discussing its unique feature that it doesn’t have sides. The week was packed with interactive learning and teamwork!
To wrap up the week, we had a fun, hands-on activity where the children did zoo phonics letter stamping on a canvas. The letters the class worked with were the beginning sounds of their names. We also practiced counting the numbers “1-10”, reinforcing number recognition and sequencing skills. It was a week full of exploration, collaboration, and growth!
Math
In our latest math session, the students had a fantastic time engaging in an activity that helped them practice identifying numbers and counting objects. The activity involved counting teddy bears and matching them with number flashcards from 1 to 5. The students were presented with a colorful collection of teddy bears, each uniquely designed and of different sizes. They were asked to count the teddy bears and then find the matching number flashcard that represented the total number of bears.
This activity served as a hands-on way for the students to reinforce their number recognition skills and practice counting in a fun and interactive manner. By incorporating teddy bears and number flashcards into the lesson, the students were able to visually and kinesthetically engage with the concept of numbers, making the learning experience more enjoyable and meaningful for them. The hands-on nature of the activity allowed the students to actively participate and manipulate objects, enhancing their understanding and retention of the mathematical concepts being taught.
Science
Our young scientists have been on an exciting journey of discovery in their exploration of the three types of transportation! It all began with a simple yet thought-provoking question: “How do you come to school?”. This innocent inquiry sparked a lively discussion among our students, leading them to delve deeper into the world of transportation and its significance in our daily lives. Through interactive and engaging activities, our students learned about the three main types of transportation: land, water, and air. Their eagerness to learn and their ability to think critically about the world around them serves as a reminder of the power of education to inspire and empower young minds.
Art
We are excited to share some wonderful progress about our art project this week. As part of our ongoing efforts to integrate literacy and creativity, our students engaged in a unique activity that combined their knowledge of letters with their love for art.
The children were tasked with creating letter stamps on canvas, starting with the beginning sound of their name. This activity not only allowed them to explore different textures and colors but also helped them reinforce the Zoo Phonics method they have been learning in literacy. Each child carefully selected the letters corresponding to their name and their favorite animal, ensuring that they were able to practice identifying and sound out the letters effectively. As they stamped the letters onto the canvas, they had the opportunity to experiment with different arrangements and patterns, fostering their creativity and critical thinking skills.
Literacy
This week in literacy, the students demonstrated their remarkable progress through an engaging and interactive game using Zoo Phonics letters. The game not only served as a revision tool for the children to reinforce their knowledge of letters A-F, but it also provided them with a fun and exciting way to develop a range of important skills.
During the game, the teacher named flashcards representing letters A-F, and the children eagerly raced to pick the correct card from the floor. This activity not only helped the children to strengthen their sound identification skills but also encouraged them to listen attentively and respond quickly. In doing so, they honed their listening skills and learned to associate sounds with their corresponding letters. Moreover, the physical aspect of the game allowed the children to improve their gross and fine motor skills. By reaching for and picking up the flashcards from the floor, the children engaged their fine motor skills, enhancing their hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
Library
This week’s library session was truly an enriching experience. Our teacher introduced the children to a wonderful story titled “Say Please, Little Bear” that not only entertained them but also imparted valuable lessons on manners and politeness. As the children listened attentively to the story, they were drawn into the world of Little Bear and his adventures. Through the charming narrative, they were reminded of the importance of saying “please” and “thank you” in their daily interactions. The story served as a gentle yet impactful way to reinforce good manners that we all strive to instill in our children.
Not only did the story captivate their attention, but it also sparked discussions among the children about the significance of politeness and respect. They shared their own experiences and insights, showing a deeper understanding of how small gestures of politeness can make a big difference in our interactions with others.
