Early Pre-k Weekly Blog

Dear parents,

We were glad to see you joining us for family day. We hope that you got the chance to know your child’s friends and families and see the environment where your child spends his daytime!

What we had for this week

Large group: In our large group this week we all shared about our weekend, how did we feel about the family day and who we brought with us? The number of the week was six ‘6’, the color ‘pink’ and the shape heart. This week our classes also enjoyed playing in the sand box for free choice.

“The sand is cold.”

“Look I found a seahorse”

Math: This week in our math session we closed our pattern topic by allowing our students to choose the type of pattern they want to create (ABAB, ABC, and ABB) and the materials they want to use.

On Wednesday afternoon we mixed art and math together by stamping hearts on papers. Our students had hearts made from papers and they dipped it in paint and stamped it on a paper “Blue heart” said one of them.

Cooperative game: For cooperative game this week we had a parachute game. Students held the edges of the parachute and shock it up and down and the plastic balls in the middle started to fly out. The students were full of joy during this game, and they worked on their gross motor skills and teamwork.

Music: On Tuesday our class enjoyed exploring a new musical instrument which was the ‘Piano’. They were trying to play on the white keys and the black ones to hear the difference between them. We also practiced playing the drum to the beat of a song ‘The ants go marching’.

Ethiopian center: This week our class got the chance to go to the Ethiopian center and explore some of the materials like traditional clothes, traditional musical instrument, and Ethiopian kitchen utensils. They also went through the first letter of the Amharic alphabet ‘Ha’. Moreover, they enjoyed sitting in the coffee corner and made coffee.

Literacy: On Thursday our class had fun drawing on their journals about their families, animals, and cars. It was a good activity because they got to work on their fine motor skills and express their feelings and thoughts.

“My mammy, daddy and my little sister”

“A car”

Library: On yesterday’s library class we read a story under the title “I love hugs”. All the class was listening attentively, and they started to relate to their own experiences “I got a birthday hug”, “I hug my little sister”. Then we ended our session with a group hug!

Art:Today we had a stamping activity for our art class. Students This activity gave the students the chance to improve their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.
