Educational Adventures in the Infants Class!

Dear Parents,

We’re thrilled to share the wonderful experiences we’ve had over the past two weeks in our Infants class! Your little ones have been engaged in amazing activities, discovering new things and developing skills in delightful ways. Each day has been filled with joy, exploration, and growth, and we’re excited for you to get a glimpse of all the special moments we've shared.

Free choice time

During free choice time, we had a fun and active time playing football! First, we sat together and talked about how to play, including some important rules like not pushing our friends and taking turns with the ball. The children were very happy and excited, each excited to score a goal and enjoy it with their friends! At the end, we sat down, and each child had a turn to kick the ball towards the goal.

After a lively time taking turns to kick, everyone took a water break, and we celebrated with high-fives. Finally, we made a “choo-choo” train and headed back to the classroom together. It was a joyful time full of teamwork and laughter!

Large group

In our large group time, we began by having the children find their pillows. This helped them settle in and prepare for the activity. We then sang "Baa Baa Black Sheep", which helped calm and focus the children. Next, we sang our "Good Morning" song. After that, we introduced some choices for the children, letting them pick from songs like "How Much is That Doggie in the Window" and activities like stamping, playing with the soft toy sheep, and trying out a new tool- a clamp.

The children loved listening to the songs and followed along with the movements and directions. For attendance, each child placed their picture on the attendance board by themselves, which they enjoyed. Then, we read a book called “That Not mine”. The children were very happy and excited, enjoying the story as we brought it to life by changing our facial expressions to match each character. At the end, all the children said "thank you" using both words and sign language, a wonderful way to wrap up our session!

Music

In our music session, we began by placing musical instruments in the center of the circle. We explained to the children what we do during music class, helping them understand the activities to come. Each child was then given a chance to choose an instrument. Once everyone had selected their instrument, we introduced them to each by name, so they could start learning about the different sounds and shapes. With music playing in the background, the children happily explored their instruments, discovering the sounds they could create. This hands-on experience was a fun way for them to connect with music! This approach makes music class interactive and enjoyable for the children, giving them the freedom to explore at their own pace.

Gymnastics

In our infants gymnastics class, we start with a warm-up, which includes fun activities like running and gentle stretching to get the children moving. After warming up, we move to the main activity on the mats. Here, each child gets a turn to practice rolling on the mattress. This activity is done one at a time, allowing each child to build confidence and coordination. The class is designed to be fun, safe, and engaging, helping your child develop physical skills in an encouraging environment.

Literacy and Language

It has been a dazzling educational adventure  in literacy and language recently! In this session, we wrapped pictures of different body parts (like head, hand, foot, etc.) in colorful paper to make it exciting for the children to unwrap. Then, we placed all the wrapped pictures in a basket and tied it with a rope, which we then put in the center of our circle. We explained to the children what we would be doing – taking turns to pick a wrapped picture from the basket, unwrapping it, and discovering the body part inside. After the explanation, each child got a turn to pick a picture, unwrap it, and show it to the teacher and their friends. They also pointed to or touched the body part on themselves (like touching their head when they found the "Head" picture). The children had a blast with this activity, and amazed us with their knowledge of body parts!

Art

In our art class, we explored a sensory and creative activity called ice painting! We started the session with a lively "Color Song" to introduce the colors we’d be using. Then, each child had the chance to choose their favorite color for painting. Using ice cubes with paint, the children enjoyed creating unique artwork on white paper. They loved watching the colors melt and blend as they painted, which made it a truly magical experience!

Science

Science class, we had a fun and messy time making "goop!" First, we added a bit of cornstarch to the trays. The children were curious and eager to explore. Next, we added water to the trays, and the children began to mix everything together, discovering how the mixture changed texture. They were engaged and fascinated, calling for "more water!" as they continued to mix and play with their goop. It was a fantastic hands-on activity that sparked their curiosity about science and materials.

Library

We’re always excited for our library session here in the infants class! This time, we set up outside, creating a new reading area with mats, pillows, dolls, and a variety of books for the children to enjoy. First, the children settled down on the pillows. They then took turns choosing a book from the shelf. They explore the books independently, enjoying their own reading time. At the end of the session, we gather to read a story together, creating a shared reading experience. Finally, the children help clean up all the materials, encouraging responsibility and teamwork.

Math

In math time, the children enjoyed a fun color-matching activity! We used colorful balls and baskets to introduce the concept of matching. First, we explained to the children what we do in math class, helping them understand the purpose of the activity. Then, we set out the materials in front of them and encouraged them to match the colored balls to the corresponding baskets. Each child took turns matching the colors one by one, building their color recognition and sorting skills in an enjoyable and hands-on way!

Clay

We recently had a fun and creative clay session! The children first got the chance to explore the texture of the clay with their hands. After getting familiar with it, we introduced different materials for them to use with their clay, allowing each child to choose what interested them most.

Abeba crafted a "lollipop"

Leul made a "woof woof" (dog)

Noura created a "pizza"

Overall, it has been a beautiful two weeks in the infants class and we hope you enjoyed browsing the highlights!
