First Week In Early Pre-K

Dear Parents,

We would like to take this chance to welcome all of you and your children to our school and our Early Pre-K class once more. We would also like to assure you that your children have been settling amazingly into the school compound and routine. In this first blog you would be reading about how your child’s week went and the activities she/he got to be part of in different learning areas.

Large group:

Everyday during our large group sessions, we started by asking the children how their morning was and singing the “good morning” song. We also introduced days of the week by saying their days out loud, sang the “There are seven days in a week” song and counted the days of the week on the board. Moreover, we talked about classroom rules and expectations.

Our large group book for this week was ‘Clifford’s First Day of School’. The students enjoyed hearing about how Clifford's first day went!

Music:

This week the children had so much fun dancing to different music. There were a variety of song speeds in our music sessions- we danced to slow music and fast music while we were holding musical scarfs. We started off the session by asking the children what they think we can do with the musical scarfs. After hearing all their awesome ideas everyone picked the color of the scarf they prefer, we stood up, played the music and followed along!

Literacy:

During our literacy session the children got really artistic! We opened the session by discussing what a journal is and what we could do with it? Then they were excited to actually get their journals and pick the color of crayons they preferred to use. It was interesting to see what came out of these little smart minds.

Science:

We started our first topic for science which is ‘All about me’. Our specific focus was body parts. We started by asking if they know what we mean when we say body parts. After each student shared their understanding of body parts we stood up and sang the “Head, shoulders, knees and toes” song in fast and slow speeds which made them really excited!

Library:

For our first library session we were all thrilled to go into the library room and explore the new books and favorite stories from last year too! Before we did that, we had a discussion about library rules such as how we hold books, ask for a book that a friend has and keep our indoor voices while we are there. Then we read a story together under the title ‘Hands to Heart’. From this story we got another chance to learn more about our body parts and how breathing and stretching could help us to feel better.

Cooperative game:

The cooperative game from this week was all about practicing listening skills, turn taking, and gross motor skills. We headed outside with a ball and a speaker for music and this is how the game went. We made a big circle then played the music and passed the ball from one person to the other while the music was on, and stopped passing it when the music stopped.
