Fun And Engaging Activities For All In Pre-k!

Greetings dear parents!

How was your week? We hope yours was as amazing as ours. This week, the Pre-K class was very busy with many engaging and fun activities, and it was a blast!

Large group

In our Pre-K large group session, the students had an exciting time exploring letters, numbers, and new concepts together. We focused on learning the letters E, F, G, and H, practicing their sounds and discovering different words that start with these letters. The children enjoyed coming up with vocabulary words and sharing their ideas as they built their early literacy skills.

Along with letters, we worked on numbers by counting and recognizing different numerals. The students also took turns fixing the classroom calendar, identifying the current month, and practicing the months of the year in order. These activities help them develop a stronger understanding of time and routine.

Another highlight of the session was rhyming words! The children had fun working with word pairs like toy and boy, recognizing how they sound alike and exploring other rhyming words together.

For our morning message, the students eagerly shared about their weekends, discussing their experiences and listening to their friends’ stories. They also had an engaging discussion about mixing colors, expressing what they know about how different colors blend to create new ones.

Finally, we introduced the hexagon shape! The children explored its six sides and compared it to other familiar shapes, making connections to objects they see in their daily lives.

Math

This week, our math lessons focused on measurement, specifically the concepts of big and small. In our first session, the class discussed what measurement means and the various things we measure. Most of our students shared their amazing perspectives and ideas about measurement!

After our discussion, we all went outside to explore the school grounds. We found and compared different objects, pointing out which ones were big and which were small. It was an amazing way to practically explore our environment and measure the big and small items around us.

In the second session, we gave them two minutes to think about the small and big items we had in the classroom. Then, while waiting their turn, everyone stood up to pick an item, and we explained to the class by categorizing them as big or small. While we were learning about measurement, everyone was excited to share what they knew, which gave them a deeper understanding. This measurement concept does not end this week, as we will continue learning about measurement concepts in various ways over the next few weeks. Stay tuned to hear more about these mathematical explorations!

Literacy

This week in our Pre-K literacy sessions, we continued working on blending two sounds, focusing specifically on words that start with the letter e. The students were excited to come up to the board and practice blending sounds by adding another letter to e, forming simple word parts. They had fun experimenting with different sounds and seeing how letters come together to make words.

In another session, the children engaged in both writing and reading practice. Each student received a paper and eagerly began writing, reinforcing their fine motor skills while also practicing their ability to blend and recognize sounds. After writing, they worked in pairs to sound out what they had written, helping each other decode and read aloud. This interactive activity encouraged both collaboration and confidence in their emerging literacy skills. We’re so proud to see their continuous development!

Meanwhile, another group focused on mastering their Zoophonics sounds. They practiced saying the sounds with their corresponding motions and also worked on writing them. This hands-on approach helped solidify their understanding of letter sounds while making learning engaging and dynamic.

Overall, the sessions were filled with enthusiasm, as the students actively participated in blending, writing, and reading—building the foundational skills for early literacy in a fun and meaningful way.

Science

This week in science, the class continued working on our planet projects. Since we have been thoroughly engaged in this project, the students were all excited and eager to participate. Just like last week, we chose three planets: Jupiter, Mercury, and Saturn. Most of our students love to compare the largest and smallest planets, Jupiter and Mercury, and they enjoy discussing these planets in relation to others.

This week, as we did previously, we inflated three balloons based on their sizes. This time, we tore magazine pages and, using glue, we covered the balloons with the magazine pieces, taking turns and working in groups.

At this point, this activity fostered team spirit, encouraged taking turns, and builds a habit of collaboration. It was both helpful and a lot of fun!

This science project will continue next week as we finish two more planets. After everything dries in the sun, the class will paint them in the colors of the planets. They can't wait to start painting!

Art

This week's art project was a lot of fun and very engaging. The class decided to create a large art piece on one canvas by mixing colors.

First, we discussed color mixing during our large group session. The students wanted to incorporate this idea into their art project, sharing which colors they wanted to achieve through mixing.

Then, we went to the art room, where we prepared the canvas by creating different spaces with tape. Paired with a friend, each student chose the colors they wanted to mix. They painted in their designated spaces, selecting two different colors to combine.

In the end, when they achieved new colors by mixing, they were really excited. Their artwork turned out beautifully!

Gymnastics

Our outdoor gymnastics session was filled with movement, coordination, and leadership opportunities for the students. We began by lining up as a whole class and walking around the cycling area in a straight line. As they carefully balanced on the white line on the floor, they were not only warming up but also practicing focus and control over their movements. Completing four rounds in a row, they demonstrated great concentration and balance.

After the warm-up, the students stood in one line, eagerly waiting for their turn to lead. Each child had the opportunity to come up with two different exercises, and the rest of the class followed along. This part of the session was particularly exciting as they took on leadership roles, guiding their classmates with confidence. They truly enjoyed the feeling of leading the session and choosing their own movements.

Next, we worked on waist movements and coordination by trying out the hula hoops. The students had fun experimenting with different ways to keep the hoop spinning, improving their body control and rhythm.

To finish off the session, we practiced scoring in both football and basketball. The students took turns aiming for the goal and the hoop, building their kicking and throwing skills while cheering each other on. It was a fantastic way to wrap up an active and engaging gymnastics session outdoors!

Library

Our outdoor library session was a wonderful blend of reading, discussion, and of course storytelling. The children enjoyed settling into pairs and small groups of three, choosing storybooks to read together. Teachers also joined in, reading along with the students and helping them explore the stories. The fresh air and natural setting made the reading experience even more enjoyable.

After some independent and small-group reading, we all gathered to read Giraffes Can’t Dance together. The story follows a giraffe who feels left out on the zoo animals’ dance day because he believes he cannot dance. The students were quick to share their thoughts on why a giraffe might struggle to dance—some said it was because of its tall legs, while others thought its long neck made it difficult.

As the story unfolded, the children observed how the giraffe’s emotions changed, from feeling sad and left out to discovering joy and confidence. They were particularly engaged when the cricket encouraged the giraffe by playing the violin, helping it find the right music to move to. The moment when the giraffe finally danced amazed everyone, showing them that sometimes, all we need is the right rhythm and a little encouragement.

This session was a beautiful opportunity for the children to not only practice their reading but also explore emotions, problem-solving, and self-confidence through storytelling. The students left inspired, understanding that just like the giraffe, they too can find their own way to shine!
