Fun week in Pre-K!

Greetings Dear Parents!

How was your week? Our week was fascinating. We had lots of fun.

Large Group

During large group, we continued on our routine of circle time. Sitting in a circle helps kids to settle down, focus, and prepare for the day’s activities. This time helps our kids to practice taking turns, listening and expressing their feelings. In this time we will learn songs, read books and talk about their days, which are very exciting and engaging moments for our little ones.

Literacy

During literacy this week, the Pre K class worked on learning the letters of the alphabet. It is a crucial step in preparing our little ones for writing. We started off by focusing on the letter Aa. Tracing the letter uppercase "A" and lowercase "a" is fun and educational activity that helps the children develop their writing and motor skills while engaging their creativity. We encouraged them to start at the top and follow the lines, saying "A" and "ah" (the sound A makes) out loud as they trace. After they trace we let them color in the letters to reinforce their learning and keep the experience fresh and exciting.

Ethiopian Center

In our classroom, we love to celebrate and explore the rich cultural diversity of our world. This week, the children were so excited to focus on Ethiopian culture through various fun and engaging activities at the Ethiopian Center. Ethiopia is a country filled with vibrant traditions, delicious food, and rich history. Introducing our little learners to different cultures fosters understanding, respect, and appreciation for diversity. It empowers them to be open-minded global citizens. It was an exciting time in the Ethiopian Center this week We discussed different instruments used in Ethiopian music, like the 'krar',  'masenqo' and 'washent'. We also introduced the children to traditional foods, focusing on "injera". We arranged a simple activity to make a basic version of Injera. Our wonderful chefs were helping by mixing the ingredients to make it, with and coffee as well. At the end we danced to different Ethiopian cultural songs. Exploring Ethiopian culture in our class offers a vibrant and enriching experience for our students.

Science

It was a thrilling week in science! During our session, we explored five engaging experiments to explore each of the five senses.

The five senses- sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell help us explore and understand the world around us. For sight our class looked at and inspected different items, for sounds they played maracas to hear the shaking sounds, for touch we felt different textured materials like rock and grass, for smell we tried smelling herbs, and for taste we tried sugar and salt. Through these experiments, the children explored the five senses in a fun and interactive way.

Math

This week in our math we did a fun worksheet about tracing numbers 1-5. Learning to recognize and write numbers is an important in developing math skills. Tracing numbers helps children improve their fine motor skills and learn numbers. We first showed them how to trace each number, starting from the top and following the lines and encouraging kids to say the numbers aloud as they trace to reinforce recognition.
