Growing Through the Seasons in Early Pre K!
Dear families,
We hope you’ve had an amazing week! Our Early Pre-K class was buzzing with excitement as your little explorers dove into a week packed with discovery, creativity, and growth. Through hands-on, interactive activities, they delved into the fascinating worlds of science, literacy, and art. Through these, the class was able to strengthen their cognitive, artistic, and social skills. Keep reading to discover the fun and enriching moments that made your child’s week so special!
Large Group
This week, our Early Pre-K large group sessions were full of energy and learning! We focused on the letter “c”, exploring its sound and building vocabulary with words that start with “c”. During morning message time, the children enjoyed searching for rectangles in the classroom, expanding their understanding of shapes in the world around them.
In math, we introduced the number “5,” and the class had so much fun counting objects and discovering the new 2D shape—the pentagon! We also revisited familiar shapes like circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles by letting the children create their own shapes using fuzzy sticks and finding the shape rectangle in the classroom. It was a week filled with interactive learning, teamwork, and growth. We can’t wait to see what adventures await next!
Math
In our math session, we introduced a fun and interactive game involving number flashcards from 1 to 15. The objective of the game was to enhance their counting skills and familiarize them with numbers in a playful way. The children took turns flipping up the number flashcards, one by one. As they revealed each number, they had to count and match the corresponding number of markers to the number on the card. This activity not only helped them practice counting in a hands-on manner but also improved their number recognition abilities.
During the game, the students eagerly awaited their turn to reveal the next number and counted with glee as they matched the markers. This interactive math session not only made learning enjoyable but also reinforced their understanding of numerical concepts. By participating in activities like these, the children are not only building a strong foundation in math but also developing essential skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking. We believe that combining learning with fun activities is key to fostering a love for math in children.
Science
In a bustling classroom filled with eager young minds, our students recently embarked on an exciting journey into the world of water transportation. Armed with colorful flashcards depicting submarines, sailboats, jet skis, ships, and motor boats, the class delved deep into discussions about the various ways in which humans have conquered the vast seas.
As the discussion unfolded, the students took turns sharing their insights and reflections on how each type of water transportation operates. Animatedly flipping through their flashcards, they presented their findings with a sense of excitement and curiosity that was truly infectious. The submarine sparked imaginations with its ability to dive deep into the ocean depths, while the sailboat evoked images of breezy adventures on the open sea. The jet ski was hailed for its speed and agility, and the motor boat was admired for its versatility in navigating different water bodies. And of course, the grandeur of a ship left a lasting impression on everyone, showcasing the power and majesty of human seafaring.
Library
In our most recent library session, we decided to read a story titled "I Have Manners". As the children settled down on the colorful mats, their eyes sparkled with anticipation. The magic of the library session was not just in the words of the story, but in the connections made between the children and the deeper understanding of the virtues of kindness and manners. As the session came to an end, the children left with a newfound appreciation for the power of simple gestures and polite words in shaping their relationships with others.
In the hearts of the young listeners, the story had left an indelible mark, reminding them of the beauty in treating others with respect and empathy. And as they bid farewell to the library, their minds brimming with newfound wisdom, they carried the essence of the tale with them, promising to spread kindness wherever they went.
Literacy
Our recent literacy session was an enriching journey! Our focus was on letters f-j, and we employed the captivating method of Zoo Phonics to engage and educate the little ones. The session began with each child receiving colorful flashcards featuring different animals corresponding to the letters f-j. From the friendly Francie fish for 'f' to jellyfish 'j', the children eagerly dove into the world of Zoo Phonics.
As we presented each flashcard, the children sparkled with curiosity and enthusiasm. They enjoyed imitating the unique sound and motion associated with each animal. Through these interactive activities, the children not only learned the alphabet but also developed their listening, motor, and social skills. The session was not just educational but a fun-filled adventure that sparked their creativity and imagination.
Art
We are excited to share with you the wonderful artwork that our children have created, reflecting the beauty of the four seasons through a unique project that combined art and science. Inspired by the changing seasons and the beauty of nature, our young artists have started working together on creating a stunning piece of artwork that showcased the transition of the four seasons in a single tree. The children were truly fascinated by the process of creating this artwork, as they watched their tree transform with each stroke of paint. They were able to express their love for nature and their appreciation for the wonders of the world around them through their art.
