Happy Ethiopian New Year!

Dear Parents,

We would like to wish you all a Happy Ethiopian New Year!

Large Group

In the past few weeks, we have developed the routine of starting our large group session by singing "Good Morning," "Baby Shark," and "Miss Polly Had a Dolly." After that, we took attendance and read the book titled “Where is the Baby’s Belly Button?”. The children were very engaged and enjoyed the book.

Music

It was an exciting time in our music and movement session! This time, the children had the opportunity to choose their favorite songs and sing and dance along. They followed the directions of the songs, such as freezing and jumping, and enjoyed dancing around the classroom.

Gymnastics

During gymnastics, we practiced yoga poses inspired by animals. We began by reading 'Clifford’s Animal Sounds,' then demonstrated the animal poses one by one. The children followed along and practiced the poses.

Literacy

In literacy class, we identified animals using magazines. We placed the magazines in the center and gave the children a chance to pick and open them. The children were very interested and excitedly shared what they found with their teachers and friends. They also had a blast trying to imitate the animal sounds!

Science

We had a thrilling time in our science session! The children have used play dough in their activities many times, but this time they got to make it themselves using flour, water, and oil. Each child received a plate with flour, and we added water and oil for mixing. The children were very engaged, and some of them asked for more of the ingredients.

Math

On the math session we made color matching activity and we used, red, green, and yellow popsicle sticks. The children explored the materials, matched the colored popsicles sticks with the colored pockets, and enjoyed the activity.

Ethiopian Center

This week in the Ethiopian Center, we practiced traditional Ethiopian songs like "Abebayehoash" with traditional instruments. We ended the session by dancing to Ethiopian traditional music. The children were engaged and happy, and at cleanup time, they sang "Abebayehoash Lemlem." It’s truly beautiful to see the engagement our students have with Ethiopian culture, and we look forward to continuing to cultivate this throughout the year.
