Kindergarten Autumn Adventures and Ethiopian New Year Celebrations!

Dear Parents,

We hope you’ve all had an amazing week! Happy Ethiopian New Year to all our Ethiopian and international families! Our week was filled with fun and festivities. Let’s take a look at how our week went with all the exciting activities we had.

Literacy

We kicked off our literacy lessons with an introduction to the season we are in now: Autumn. We named all four seasons and focused primarily on Autumn. Our children sang the season song while exploring the different flower colors that can be seen during this time using flashcards. In the next literacy class, they were able to explain Autumn while holding the flashcards themselves!

Math

This week, our math activities included writing numbers on the ground with chalk, which the children really enjoyed! This helped them with number recognition. They also made shapes with playdough, using colors that reflect the vibes of Autumn.

Science

In science, we learned about paper and water experiments, which showed our children how paper towels soak up water when they touch it. Another activity involved making water droplets in red, yellow, and orange—still keeping with that Autumn theme! The class was thoroughly engaged and loved these activities.

Art

In our weekly art session, we did autumn leaf printing using red, orange, and yellow paint. The children painted green leaves with brushes and then printed them on brown cardboard to make them look like fallen leaves. They also stacked the colored leaves on white paper, creating beautiful Autumn displays. We are so proud of our class full of artists and can’t wait to see how their creativity develops!

Ethiopian New Year Festivities

We gathered to talk about Ethiopian New Year, explaining how Ethiopia has its own calendar. The children were curious and asked lots of questions. We sang “Abebayehosh” so they could get a feel for the celebration. We also went outside to celebrate with our whole school family, and we had a blast!
