Dear Family, How was your week? I hope it was as fantastic as ours! As your favorite kindergarten class, we’ve been busy with exciting activities. Read on to discover all the fun details…

Large Group

This week, in addition to setting the date and reviewing our daily schedule, we embarked on an exciting journey through our weekly topic: “Invention”! With engaging song breaks in between, we explored the fascinating stories of renowned inventors and their groundbreaking creations, including the telephone, airplane, car, and light bulb. These innovations have significantly transformed our daily lives, and the children were thrilled to learn about the brilliant minds behind them.

“Tom is my dads boss and his name is Thomas like Thomas Edison” -Leayene

“I like Alexander Bell because he invented telephone” -Adelene

“The good brothers made the airplane and I was on altar airplane with my mom in Dubai” -Junior

“They’re Wright brothers Jr. , they are not good brothers” -Umar

Science

In our science session, we dived deeper into the life and legacy of “Albert Einstein”, the namesake of our school. Our children were excited to make this connection! We explored his childhood, discussing his curiosity and the traits that made him a remarkable scientist. While we simplified complex scientific concepts, we emphasized his adventurous spirit and passion for discovery, sharing stories about his early experiments and interests. Our children loved learning about how Einstein's curiosity shaped his contributions to science, making it relatable and inspiring for their young minds. In our next science session, we had a great time with a word search focused on Albert Einstein. The activity not only reinforced their learning about this brilliant scientist but also made it interactive and fun. Our children enjoyed uncovering key terms related to Einstein's contributions, sparking lively discussions and curiosity about science! This week was filled with exploration and excitement as we delved into the world of invention and the remarkable figures who shaped it!

“He is big Einstein yeah?” -Jr.

“He’s curious like Lucas” -Hekima

“He likes to play violin and his mom teach him” -Abigail

“He likes Math” -Yeabsera

“He likes music” -Tang Tang

“Albert Einstein is like Eliyab yeah? He’s genius” -Lucas

“I found ‘Genius’ here you see” -Adelene

Literacy

This week in our literacy session, we continued our lesson on pronouns. In the first part, we took our children to the sand pit to practice writing sentences using pronouns. They flattened the surface and created sentences using their hands or pencil sticks. Our children loved this activity, enjoying the sand beneath their bare feet while discussing and communicating with each other. In the second part of the session, they worked on identifying the correct pronouns from given pictures, circling the appropriate ones on their worksheets. Additionally, they read sentences and circled the pronouns within each sentence. It was a fun and engaging as we explored pronouns through interactive and hands-on activities!

“The sand is our book now” -Lucas

“I want Sandbox” -Eliyab

“My handwriting is the same even in the sand” -Umar

Math

This week in math, we focused on subtraction as we explored mathematical symbols. We started with one-digit subtraction without regrouping. Our children used their fingers to help them subtract, which made the activity both easy and fun!

In the next session, we advanced to two-digit subtraction, still without regrouping. They learned to start subtracting from the last digit before moving to the first one. They did an amazing job with both exercises!

“I had ten chocolates and Phi took 3, and now I have 7” -Jr.

“I will do it with the stick” -Yeabsera

“I finished this I need another one” -Lucas

Art

This week, we started our 7th canvas with the plan of creating a volcano, inspired by the volcano experiments our children have conducted in their science classes. They decided to design a volcanic canvas, choosing to paint the background gray to make their artwork stand out. After practicing their sketches on paper, they transferred their designs to the canvas, painting the volcano in shades of brown and red to represent the lava. It was an exciting and creative session as they brought their volcanic visions to life!

“The lava is red not orange” -Adelene

“It looks like a mountain now without the lava” -Leayene

“I want to paint the orange part” -Abigail

Gymnastics

This week, our young gymnasts had an exciting time pushing their limits in a fun and supportive environment. We kicked off with a thrilling challenge: a balance walk with eyes closed, testing their coordination and focus. It was inspiring to see them encourage one another! The highlight of the session was the exhilarating over-arch activity. This advanced move showcased their flexibility and strength as they bent backward in a graceful arch. With our gymnastics teacher Zola’s guidance, our children mastered the technique and executed it with confidence!

“I can do it with my eyes not open” -Junior

“Don’t laugh if I fall okay” -Umar

Construction Center

This week, our kindergarteners continued their special construction project. After designing signs and symbols last week, they gathered to build a house based on their plans with construction teacher Gelila.

First, they discussed the recycled materials needed for their project. Using materials of their choice, they began building by cutting shapes from large cardboard, measuring sizes with tape, and using glue guns to stick the pieces together. They used cardboard for the foundation, tissue tubes for the columns, and other materials to create half of the structure. This project is a work in progress, and they will continue brainstorming together next week!

“It needs a stair to not fall” -Lucas & Umar

“Let’s paint it green” -Adelene

“And also pink” -Tang Tang

“It have to be the same in all side” -Hekima
