Little Learners Adventures!

Dear parents,

This week in Early Pre-K, your children explored, learned, and shared in so many exciting ways! From counting and creating with numbers and shapes to practicing new letters and sounds, each day was filled with engaging activities designed to spark their curiosity and build their skills. Through group discussions, hands-on learning, and creative play, your little ones are growing socially, emotionally, and academically—all while having so much fun. Here’s a glimpse into their week!

Large group

This week, our Early Pre-K large group was filled with exciting learning experiences and engaging discussions!

We focused on the number 17. Together, we counted 17 stars on the board, and with the help of friends, we used our fingers to show 17. Our letter of the week was Q. We learned about the sound it makes and practiced saying words like queen and quilt. The children also had the chance to trace and write the letter Q on the board, helping them strengthen their writing skills while connecting sounds to letters.

We also explored the 3D shape pyramid! The children learned that pyramids have a square base and four triangular sides, and we talked about where pyramids can be found in the world—specifically in Sudan and Egypt. The children were fascinated to learn how these amazing structures look and where they exist!

During our morning discussions, we had a wonderful time sharing about our vacations. The children talked about whether they traveled or stayed home and the fun activities they did with their families, such as playing, cooking, and exploring new places. These conversations allowed everyone to connect and practice their speaking and listening skills.

Lastly, we wrapped up our week by talking about sea animals—a topic that sparked curiosity and creativity among the children! We look forward to seeing this exploration develop.

It has been an exciting week full of learning and collaboration. The children’s enthusiasm and participation continue to shine!

Math

This week, we wrapped up our math topic of measurement with a fun and interactive revision session! On Monday, we revisited all the key concepts we’ve learned, including big and small, long and short, tall and short, heavy and light.

The children enthusiastically searched around the classroom for examples of big and small objects, compared short and tall items, and tested which materials were heavy or light. These hands-on activities helped them reinforce their understanding of these measurement concepts in a practical way.

To finish the session, each child got a chance to choose a material from the classroom and measure its height or length using colored cubes. They carefully lined up the cubes, counted how many were needed, and shared their results with the group. Not only did this activity help strengthen their measurement skills but it also encouraged counting, problem-solving, and collaborative learning.

It was a wonderful way to wrap up our measurement topic while giving the children an opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in an engaging and meaningful way!

Music

This week in our music session, the children had a delightful time exploring sounds, instruments, and songs!

We started with a fun guessing game where the students listened to different instrument sounds played on the speaker. They eagerly tried to identify which instrument they heard, such as a drum, piano, or guitar. This activity was a wonderful way to practice listening skills and expand their musical vocabulary.

Afterward, the children had the opportunity to physically explore various instruments, including shakers, drums, and a piano. They enjoyed experimenting with the sounds each instrument made, developing a hands-on connection to music.

To end the session, the students each chose their favorite songs, and we all stood up and sang together. This part of the session was filled with joy, movement, and lots of enthusiastic singing!

It was a vibrant and engaging music class that encouraged listening, creativity, and collaboration. We are so proud to see their confidence and engagement!

Library

This week’s library session was filled with curiosity and excitement as we connected our time in the library with our science topic on water animals.

We began by exploring an animal encyclopedia, searching specifically for sea animals. The children were fascinated as they flipped through the pages, discovering vibrant pictures of various creatures like sharks, dolphins, and octopuses. They asked thoughtful questions about the animals’ names, body parts, sizes, and the sharp teeth of the shark, which captured their attention the most!

The session was highly engaging, with the students excitedly sharing their observations and building their understanding of the underwater world. To wrap up, they had the opportunity to read books together or individually, fostering a love for reading. Finally, each child got to choose a book to take home, extending the joy of learning beyond the classroom.

It was a wonderful session that combined exploration, inquiry, and reading, leaving the children eager to learn more!

Science

This week in our science session, we dived into the fascinating world of sea animals!

We began by giving the students an opportunity to share what they already knew about sea creatures. They excitedly named animals like fish, sharks, and turtles, showcasing their prior knowledge and love for the ocean.

Next, we explored a set of sea animal flashcards together. The children were captivated by the images and learned interesting facts about creatures like jellyfish, dolphins, and crabs. We discussed how these animals move, what they eat, and where they live, sparking curiosity and engagement.

To wrap up the session, we enjoyed the lively song, “There’s a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea”. The children enthusiastically sang along and moved to the rhythm, reinforcing what they had learned in a fun and memorable way.

It was a wonderful session full of learning, sharing, and musical fun!

Literacy

This week’s literacy session was all about student ownership and leadership as we explored the Zoo phonics letters!

Instead of a teacher-led review, the students took charge of the session. Each child had the opportunity to lead the class by teaching three Zoo phonics letters to their peers. They demonstrated the letter, sounded it out, made the motions, and even shared some vocabulary words starting with those letters.

The classroom was vibrant with energy as the children eagerly took turns leading and learning from each other. They showed great responsibility, enthusiasm, and confidence while reinforcing their knowledge of letter sounds and motions.

This engaging, student-led activity not only strengthened their literacy skills but also boosted their communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities. It was inspiring to see the joy and excitement as they cheered each other on and celebrated their learning together!

Art

This week in our art session, we combined creativity with scientific discovery by crafting our very own fish!

As the children created their fish, they explored its different body parts, such as the mouth, eyes, fins, and tail. Through this hands-on activity, they deepened their understanding of sea animals while developing fine motor skills.

The children carefully assembled and decorated their fish, using a variety of materials to make each one unique. They were excited to share what they learned about fish as they worked, pointing out the parts they were crafting and discussing how fish use them to swim and eat.

At the end of the session, the children proudly admired their colorful fish creations. It was heartwarming to see their smiles as they celebrated their hard work and creativity!

Ethiopian Center

The children had the opportunity to explore traditional Ethiopian musical instruments, listening to their unique sounds and even trying to play some of them. Their curiosity and enthusiasm filled the room as they learned about the rich musical traditions of Ethiopia.

Next, they got hands-on in the kitchen, where they  made Injera and pretended to make coffee and cook traditional dishes!

This immersive session was filled with learning, laughter, and joy, leaving the children with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for Ethiopian culture!
