Our Exciting week in Early Preschool!
Dear parents, we hope all is well! We had great week in Early preschool and Preschool, and we are so excited to share the highlights with you. As a reminder, next week on Thursday (September 26) we will have an early dismissal at 12pm for Demera, the traditional Ethiopian holiday. We will also be having a celebration starting 11am, including a bonfire and more fun! Further information on that will be coming out soon. The following Friday (September 27) the school will be closed for the holiday as well.
This week we also said farewell to one of our friend Chitose! Have a nice journey! We will miss you!
Happy Birthday Chitose
Large group
This week in our large group sessions, we had a wonderful time starting our mornings together. We began with our cheerful "Good Morning" song, which always sets a positive tone for the day. After singing, we discussed the days of the week, took attendance, and talked about the weather. This helps our students feel connected and engaged. One of the highlights was reading the book called "Superhero Foods". The children loved learning about different fruits and vegetables and how they can help our bodies stay strong and healthy. Their attentive listening showed just how much they enjoyed the story!
Art
In our art session we hosted an engaging art activity centered on collage making. Our students began by selecting their favorite colors from a variety of colored paper. They excitedly cut these papers into small pieces, allowing their creativity to flow freely.
Once they had a good collection of colorful scraps, we provided each student with a blank sheet of white paper and some glue. The room buzzed with energy as they arranged and stuck their pieces together, creating unique and vibrant collages.
Math
In our math session, we focused on the numbers 1 -5, providing our students with a solid foundation in numeracy. We began by discussing the significance of each number, emphasizing their unique attributes and real-world applications. To reinforce their understanding, we handed out worksheets that allowed students to color the numbers 1 and 2. The enthusiasm in the room was infectious as they eagerly grabbed their crayons and set to work. The session was filled with laughter and excitement, showcasing how math can be both fun and engaging!
Literacy
In our recent literacy sessions, we introduced the exciting world of Zoo phonics to our students. Focusing on the letters A through G, we explored each letter's sound and action, engaging the children with interactive demonstrations. To reinforce their learning, we provided play dough for tracing the letters. This hands-on activity not only kept the students focused but also helped them develop fine motor skills while reinforcing their understanding of letter shapes and sounds. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and concentration as they enjoyed the activities.
