Pre K and Kindergarten

Dear parents,

We had an amazing week learning, playing and having fun with our children. We hope your week was amazing too!!

Our large group was full of enjoyable educational activities. We read our books, we practice writing, we do calendars, we count the days we spent in school, we sing and dance, and as the final activity we practice our sight words.

Our small group sessions…

On Monday we practiced listening as it was time for literacy. We read our friend’s favorite book “jungle all the way”, a story about a very good dog named jungle. After we read the story we ask our friends to answer some questions from the story we read. We were very excited to know our friends were listening to us as they answer all of the questions correctly, from simple to complex.

Tuesday was science and we extended last week's topic, kidney. We wanted our kids to see the function of the kidney by using different materials. We had sand, sponge and water. Our friends mixed the water with the sand and poured the sand water mix onto the sponge. They witnessed the water being purified since the sand stayed in the upper sponge layer while the water went through it. We related the process with how our kidneys function and we had a very great discussion while enjoying the process.

For our art special, we continued our project art work “my city”. We were able to stick the different shaped and painted wood blocks on the two different canvases, the two canvases being my city at day and nighttime. Our friends painted the sun and the clouds in the day time painting, and the moon and the stars in the night time painting. It turned out to be so beautiful!!!

Wednesday was social studies and we kept discussing community helpers. For this week, we chose trash collectors (janitors). We started our discussion asking children what janitors do for us. Our friends answered very quickly and kept on discussing for some minute and after a while one of our friends said, “I saw a trash can fly in the sky in a movie” and everyone was interested to talk about that. There was a short debate about people’s ability to fly and see the sky. We tried to explain a little about how people can fly to the moon and other planets and we promised we are going to talk about it next week in our science class since they were very interested to know and see some videos of flying activity.

Thursday was math. For this week, we practiced identifying bigger numbers and small numbers. Since school is about to be closed, we wanted to see if our children remember what we have been doing so far and we are proud they remember it well. It was easy for our children to identify the bigger and smaller number.

Friday was fun with music and movement. Our friends select their favorite songs and move to it as they feel the beat. It was enjoyable to see new moves and dances!!
