Sixteenth Week of Kindergarten: Exploring, Learning, Friendship, and Fun!

Dear family, we hope you all had an amazing week. Welcome to another exciting week in our kindergarten class! We’re thrilled to share all the fun and educational activities that our little Einsteins participated in this week.

Shout Out: Happy Birthday, Adelene!

We love you so much! Thank you for your contagious smile and beautiful kindness that brighten our days!

Large Group

This week’s large group session was both fun and educational, setting a positive tone for the day’s learning. We began by reviewing the “3D Shapes” we’ve been studying, including cubes, spheres, cones, cuboids, and cylinders. The children were enthusiastic, sharing examples from their surroundings and discussing the properties of each shape. Their excitement was contagious as they connected these concepts to real-life objects in the playground, reinforcing their understanding. Next, we revisited “The four seasons”. Our children engaged in a lively discussion about the unique characteristics of each season. They shared their favorite activities associated with spring, summer, autumn, and winter, recounting experiences they had during each season and we discussed how different places have different seasons at a time.

This reflection not only deepened their understanding but also helped them appreciate the changes in nature throughout the year. We have also practiced reading some “CVC”. The class was engaged and eager to demonstrate their growing reading abilities. We used fun phonics games to reinforce sound-letter relationships, making the learning experience interactive and enjoyable.

Literacy

Our first literacy activity was a much-anticipated “Show and Tell”. Our children brought in special items from home, taking turns to share with the class. This experience allowed them to practice public speaking skills, fostering confidence while also encouraging active listening among peers. They enjoyed learning about each other’s treasures, which helped build a stronger classroom community.

Following Show and Tell, we dove into our “Mini phonics books”. Our children loved following along, sounding out letters and words together. As an additional activity, we ventured outside for a 'Fill the Missing Letter' worksheet. Each child received a caterpillar with a few lowercase letters written on it, along with some missing letters. They had fun completing the caterpillar by filling in the missing letters.

Math

In math, we kicked off our activities by matching “2D shapes” with their corresponding name words. This hands-on experience helped reinforce shape recognition and vocabulary in an engaging way. Our children worked collaboratively, discussing their thought processes as they matched shapes with names. We then transitioned to “3D shapes”, where the kids took on the challenge of matching shapes to their written names. This activity encouraged them to differentiate between 2D and 3D forms, enhancing their spatial awareness and understanding of geometric concepts.

Science

Our science activities this week were both creative and interactive. For the first activity, our children cut out “Seasonal stickers” and placed them on paper representing the four seasons. This visual activity helped them categorize seasonal elements and understand the changes that occur in nature. In our second science activity, we embraced a “Fall theme” to bid farewell to the autumn season. Our children completed a worksheet where they identified fall-themed pictures and matched them to the correct words. This not only reinforced their vocabulary but also encouraged them to reflect on their experiences during the fall.

Art

Art class was a colorful adventure as our children explored the solar system while coloring pictures of the “8 planets”. They enjoyed learning about each planet’s unique colors and features, fostering their creativity while enhancing their fine motor skills. The excitement in the room was palpable as they shared facts about the planets with one another.

Gymnastics

We were thrilled to welcome “Zola” from the early pre-k class as our guest trainer, who led the class in fun and engaging gymnastics activities. Our children learned new moves and techniques, encouraging them to be active and work on their coordination. Zola’s energetic approach kept the children motivated, and they left the session with big smiles and a sense of accomplishment.

Cooperative Game

To wrap up our week, we engaged in a cooperative game where our children worked together to make “Lemonade”. They took turns measuring ingredients, stirring the mixture, and pouring cups for everyone to enjoy. This collaborative experience emphasized teamwork and communication, and our children relished the delicious results of their hard work.
