So Much Fun In Pre-K!

Dear parents,

We hope this blog finds you well! Here in the Pre K class, it’s been an exciting and active week. The children were busy working on engaging literacy activities, discussing geography, getting their hands dirty in the clay sessions and so much more. Of course, we have also been preparing for our family day this Saturday (March 22) and hope to see you all there!

Large group

This week in our large group session, our Pre-K class had an exciting time exploring the letters X, Y, and Z! We practiced recognizing these letters and learned new vocabulary words that start with them. The children enjoyed coming up with words and sharing their ideas, building their confidence in letter recognition and early literacy skills.

Since we have now covered all the letters, we took the next big step—learning about digraphs! This week, we focused on ch and sh, exploring words that begin with these sounds. The students had fun finding objects that start with CH and SH, strengthening their phonemic awareness in an interactive way.

For our shape exploration, we introduced 3D shapes and started with the sphere. The students observed how a sphere looks and compared it to familiar objects in our classroom. They made an exciting connection between the sphere and the planets we had created for our solar system project! Through hands-on discussions, they also noticed the difference between a circle and a sphere, recognizing that while both are round, one is flat and the other can roll.

We explored rhyming words, focusing on words that end with -uck! We started with familiar words like duck and truck, then investigated other words that rhyme with them, such as luck and tuck. Through fun activities and discussions, the students practiced listening for similar sounds, strengthening their phonemic awareness in an engaging way. It was an exciting week of word play and discovery!

It was a fantastic week of learning, full of discoveries, connections, and hands-on fun!

Social Studies

In this week’s Social Studies session, our Pre-K class took an exciting trip around the world—right from our classroom! We started by bringing out the globe, discussing its shape and what we could see on it. The students eagerly shared their ideas, noticing the different colors and patterns representing land and water.

Next, we explored where each friend is from. The children were thrilled to learn about their classmates’ home countries and even more excited to find them on the globe! This sparked wonderful conversations about different places and cultures.

To make it even more interactive, we laid out various flags on the floor. Each student had the chance to identify their own country’s flag, recognizing familiar colors and symbols. This session was a beautiful way to foster community, curiosity, and social connections, helping our little learners appreciate the diverse world they are part of!

Literacy

This week, our literacy activities were very exciting, and the children became more passionate about their reading practice journey. A few weeks ago, our literacy focus was on blending and CVC words at different levels. This week, for the first group, we introduced digraphs: "sh," "ch," and "oo." In the first session, we presented flashcards with pictures. In the second session, we provided a worksheet where they cut out and sorted the pictures into "sh" and "ch" categories, which was very helpful.

For the second group, they began by blending two words into CVC words. In the first session, they practiced CVC words by pairing with friends and with the materials and making sounds while reading. In the second session, we gave them a worksheet to trace, read, and match the CVC words. At this point, they were progressing quickly since they understood the concept of blending. They have become fast learners, and we are super proud of our children for doing their best.

Math

This week's math topic was the same as in the previous class, focusing on measurement. To provide a clearer understanding and enhance their concepts about measurement, we decided to review it once more. In the first session, we introduced the class to a ruler and demonstrated how it works. Then, the children explored the classroom to measure various items, such as tables, pillows, chairs, and different toys. After measuring, they shared the lengths of the items with the class in centimeters.

In the second session, the class worked on a measurement worksheet that contained different items. After counting the objects, they wrote down the measurements in centimeters. This activity was very helpful for engaging with and learning more about the concept of measurement.

Clay

Over the past few weeks, our Pre-K class has been on an exciting journey exploring clay sculpting! We started each project with group discussions, where the children shared their ideas and decided together what to create. As a class, we agreed on making a bus, a volleyball, and a birthday cake.

Our first creation was the birthday cake. The students worked together, carefully shaping the clay into a round cake and adding small details to make it look as they imagined it to be. In the following sessions, we continued sculpting a volleyball and a bus, with each child contributing to the different parts of their designs. These projects encourage teamwork, creativity, and lots of fun discussions about shapes, textures, and real-life objects.

Once our sculptures were complete, we gathered again to decide on colors for painting. The children chose bright, lively colors, making each piece unique and full of personality. The final results were colorful and amazing, reflecting the wonderful creativity of our Pre-K class! This hands-on experience not only strengthened their fine motor skills but also encouraged them to express their ideas in a meaningful way.
