So Much Fun In The Pre-k!
Greetings dear parents!
How was your week? We hope you had a fantastic week. In the Pre-K class, we had a week packed with mathematical journeys, science bonanzas and so many more fun activities. We look forward to sharing the highlights with you!
Large group
Our large group focused on revising all the letters, numbers, and shapes we have learned so far. At the end of the week, we always share our favorite activities and songs. Additionally, there is a music game and books as well. In this session, everyone participated and had a blast, per usual! One of the best parts of our large group sessions is our circle time group discussions- where everything from the weather, habitats, to our weekend activities, favorite things and more gets discussed.
Math
This week's math lesson focused on tracing different shapes. The class tried to recap all the two-dimensional shapes we learned previously. In our group, we also worked on recalling the shapes while tracing them during our math session. Tracing shapes is an essential and fun activity for Pre-K classrooms, as it lays the groundwork for fine motor skills, shape recognition, and early writing abilities. This activity helps our students recognize shapes and improve their fine motor skills.
Literacy
This week, we revised our literacy activities, focusing on what we have done in the previous literacy sessions. For some of the activities, we included letter-picture matching, shading the beginning sounds of letters, finding and coloring the smallest letters, and matching lowercase and uppercase letters. These exercises help our students master the letters and sounds and allow them to practice all the letters. We were so proud to see their focus and determination in these activities, and look forward to seeing how our literacy learners continue to develop!
Science
This week in science, we explored the concepts of sinking and floating in a delightful, hands-on way. Our class full of scientists giggled, shared insights, and overall thoroughly enjoyed exploring ideas of density and floating. This activity, and other similar ones are a fantastic way to introduce our children to basic scientific principles in a Pre-K classroom.
The interactive experience sparks curiosity, promotes critical thinking, and encourages active exploration. In this experiment, we used various items like cotton, sponges, toothbrushes, clothespins, and rocks. By investigating why some objects sink while others float, Pre-K children develop curiosity, confidence, and foundational science skills. Our students were thrilled with the results and enjoyed repeating the experiment multiple times. It was a great learning experience for the class!
Art
This week's art activity was both creative and sensory! The children got working on their “ice paintings” with full enthusiasm and focus. For this activity, after we froze the paint overnight in the refrigerator, we split the children into two groups to paint. This group setting adds an element of teamwork, creativity, and shared joy. Introducing Pre-K children to art is always exciting, especially when the activity is hands-on and tactile. Ice painting perfectly blends creativity, science, and fun, engaging children in meaningful ways. Through doing this, the class observed how solid ice turns into liquid water. They were also very happy with the ice painting and the outcome of their creations. We’re so proud of them!
Cooperative Game
Our cooperative game was a delightful rendition of a favorite- "Musical Chair Drawing". We started by setting up all the chairs in a circle and placing a piece of paper on each child's chair with different colored crayons. Then, we played a song, and when the music started, everyone walked around the chairs. When the music stopped, they found their chairs to do their drawing. This continued until every child had a chance to draw on their paper. Everyone had a blast and was so excited about the music and drawing at the same time. Through this task, the children demonstrated focus, persistence and a remarkable ability to multitask!
