Sprouting Minds in Early Pre-K This Week!

Dear parents,

This week in our Early Pre-K class, your little explorers have been diving into a world of discovery, learning, and growth through a range of hands-on activities! From imaginative art projects to foundational literacy and math exercises, the children have been fully immersed in experiences that nurture their cognitive, physical, and social development. We’ve also been emphasizing teamwork and problem-solving skills, helping them build confidence and collaboration. Keep reading to catch a glimpse of the amazing adventures your child had this week!

Large group

This week in our Early Pre-K large group sessions, the children dove into various learning adventures! We focused on the letter ‘s’, exploring its sound and expanding our vocabulary with a collection of ‘s’ -starting words. During morning message time, the little ones eagerly practiced writing the lowercase ‘s’ on the board, each taking a turn to showcase their budding skills. It was a week filled with discovery and joy!

In math, we introduced the number ‘19’, and the class had a blast exploring it! They practiced counting out 19 objects and even teamed up with a friend to show 19 fingers together, combining teamwork with counting practice. We also revisited 2D and 3D shapes, focusing on the triangle, cube, and pyramid. The children loved identifying the unique features of each shape, like the triangle’s three sides or the cube’s six faces. It was truly a week of hands-on learning and collaboration!

To wrap up the week, we engaged in an interactive activity where the children sorted animals into categories such as birds, sea animals, farm animals, and wild animals. They had a blast grouping the animals and discussing their unique traits. We also practiced writing numbers 10 through 22, reinforcing number recognition and sequencing skills. It’s been a week full of exploration, teamwork, and growth!

Math

This week in our math sessions, our students delved deeper into the exciting world of graphing! To make the learning experience both fun and interactive, we used a variety of materials, including blocks, shapes, animals, crayons, wooden letters, and wooden numbers. The students started by sorting these materials into categories, carefully grouping them based on their characteristics. This activity not only reinforced their sorting skills but also encouraged them to think critically about how different objects can be organized.

Once the materials were sorted, the students counted each group. This helped them practice their counting skills and strengthened their understanding of numbers. After counting, they compared the quantities, using terms like ‘more’ and ‘less’ to describe the differences between groups, such as blocks versus shapes or animals versus crayons.

Science

In Science, we went through the fascinating world of animal classification, as seen through the eyes of our young scientists. In the classroom, students have been engaging in a hands-on activity of sorting animals using flashcards.

The activity involves students picking up a flashcard depicting an animal and then flipping it over to check its classification. All the flashcards are then organized into four groups: birds, sea animals, farm animals, and wild animals. Through this interactive exercise, students are not only learning about different types of animals but also developing their cognitive skills in categorization.

Literacy

This week in our literacy session, our little learners had a blast exploring rhyming words that end with ‘-at’. The children were encouraged to write their words like mat, rat, sat, bat and so on the whiteboard one by one. After writing the words, the students picked out letter flashcards from a pile and worked together to spell out the words they had written. For example, to spell ‘rat,’ they searched for the letters r, a, and t and placed them in the correct order on the floor. This hands-on activity reinforced letter recognition, phonics, and spelling in a fun and engaging manner.

Art

During this week’s art session, the children thoroughly enjoyed making their own snake crafts! They meticulously assembled and glued the pieces together to create charming snakes. This engaging activity was an excellent opportunity to strengthen their literacy skills while also enhancing their fine motor abilities.

As we worked on the crafts, we connected the activity to our focus on the letter ‘s’, talking about how ‘snake’ starts with ‘s’ and practicing the sound as a group. The students were thrilled with their creations and eager to share what they had learned. It was a fun, hands-on experience that beautifully blended art, literacy, and science!
