Dear parents,

We hope this message finds you well and that you're having a wonderful week! As we head into the next two weeks, we wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates from our recent sessions. It’s been a fun and creative time for the students.

This blog will cover the activities we've been doing in class. We hope you’ll enjoy reading about the creativity and teamwork that your children have been engaging in! We look forward to sharing all the wonderful progress and accomplishments from these past weeks.

Large group

Our large group was amazing, as always! We discussed various topics, such as weather, colors, family, and favorite foods. These conversations helped the children develop their language skills, build confidence, and improve their speaking abilities.

We then sang a "Good Morning" song, took attendance, and counted how many children were present in the classroom. After that, we read the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? This led to a wonderful discussion about animal sounds and colors in the book, which the children really enjoyed.

To wrap up, we took a moment to remind everyone about our school rules, focusing specifically on the importance of sharing toys with friends. It was a fantastic session filled with learning and fun!

Building Strength and Balance: Our Toddlers Gymnastics Adventure

In our toddlers class, we recently enjoyed an exciting gymnastics activity that combined fun with skill-building. The children were thrilled to participate, and it was wonderful to see them engaged in an exercise that supported their physical development.

After a warm-up, we introduced an obstacle course using hula hoops and small chairs. The children had to step carefully through the hoops without touching the chairs, helping them develop key skills like leg strength, balance, coordination, and patience.

At first, some struggled to keep their balance, but with encouragement and practice, they improved. By the end, they moved confidently and proudly through the course.

This session was more than just exercise—it was a moment of learning, resilience, and joy. Watching the children grow stronger and more confident made it a rewarding experience, and we look forward to more fun-filled activities ahead!

Literacy Activity: Body Tracing with Blocks

In our literacy session, we engaged the children in a fun and interactive activity using blocks to support their language development, spatial awareness, and understanding of body parts.

To begin, we brought a large number of blocks into the classroom and chose one child to lie down on the floor. The other children took turns placing blocks around the child's body, carefully outlining their shape. At first, some children found it difficult to understand the concept, so we demonstrated the process for them. Once they saw how it worked, they became excited and fully engaged in the activity.

As they traced the body, we encouraged them to name different body parts, reinforcing vocabulary such as "head," "arms," "legs," and "feet." This activity not only helped them learn new words but also promoted teamwork, turn-taking, and problem-solving skills.

By the end of the session, the children had so much fun while also developing their fine motor skills, communication, and ability to follow instructions. It was a fantastic way to incorporate hands-on learning into our literacy session!

Messy, Fun, and Creative: Our Canvas Art Activity

Art time in our toddlers class was an absolute joy! This week, we embraced creativity with a fun and engaging canvas painting activity that was a beautiful, hands-on experience. Our little artists had the chance to experiment with colors and textures, all while having a blast.

After cleaning up from recess, we gathered in our outdoor art space, ready to begin our colorful adventure. The children eagerly donned their art smocks in preparation. Our talented art teacher, Asnake, introduced the activity and explained how we would be using different colors along with an interesting tool—Q tip, to stamp and paint on the canvas.

Each child selected a Q Tip, which we placed into a bundle and dipped it into their chosen color, and stamped it onto the canvas. It was amazing to watch them explore different techniques—some pressed lightly, while others stamped with excitement, covering the canvas with vibrant patterns. The activity was messy, fun, and absolutely beautiful! The joy on their faces as they saw the colors blend and create unique designs was priceless.

Beyond just being fun, the activity also supported the development of key skills, such as color recognition, fine motor skills, creativity and self-expression, allowing them to explore their artistic side freely.

Library Session

During our library session, we gathered in a circle as the teacher read a selected book aloud. After reading, we had a lively discussion about the story, allowing the children to express their thoughts and ideas.

Afterward, the children had the opportunity to choose their own books and spend time reading. Most of them were deeply focused on their books, while some preferred to read with a teacher. Noura, for example, eagerly asked, "Read for me?" and sat on the teacher’s lap to listen.

To conclude the session, the children selected books to take home.

Math

In our math session, we explored the concept of opposites, focusing on "long" and "short." To make learning interactive, we used blocks of different sizes—long and short ones—so the children could see and feel the difference. The activity quickly became engaging as the children actively participated.

To add more fun, we extended the concept beyond blocks by comparing the heights of the children themselves! We selected a few students of different heights to stand side by side. When Abeba and her friend stood next to each other, she excitedly said, "I am short!" This hands-on experience helped the children grasp the idea of opposites in a fun and meaningful way.

Science

In our previous science lesson, we learned about hygiene—how to brush our teeth and wash our hands. This time, we focused on another important aspect of cleanliness: washing our feet.

For this activity, we took the children outside, where we set up a small washing session     with buckets of water and chairs. Each child took off their shoes, sat down, and washed their feet in the bucket. They were excited to experience the cool water and enjoyed the process. Through this activity, they not only learned about hygiene but also developed independence in self-care. It was a joyful and engaging learning experience!
