The Magic Of Learning In Pre-K
Greetings dear parents!
We hope you have all had a wonderful week. Here in the Pre K class, it has been a week filled with fun and engaging activities!
Large Group
Our large group sessions are one of our favorites because it's a good opportunity for our students to talk about their thoughts- any observations from their environment, what they discussed while playing with friends, or where they have been on their weekend. Our circle time discussions give children a chance to practice talking louder in front of their friends and build their confidence. We also learn letters and numbers and make it extra exciting by adding games and music!
Literacy
During literacy this week, we discussed the seasons and focused on the fall/autumn season. Autumn is a magical time when the leaves change color and fall from the trees. This week, we discussed why the leaves fall, why the color changes and into what color they will change in this season. It was also a good opportunity to talk about colors because last week we learned about colors and now this week we connected our seasonal discussions to the color discussions we had previously.
Additionally, we have been working on tracing. For the past few weeks in our large group sessions we learned the letters s, n, a, p, i, and t. This time we traced this letter to recall and practice our fine motor skills.
Math
In our math session this week we did a "copying pattern" activity. Patterns are all around us, and they are a vital part of early math skills. This engaging copying activity helps the children recognize and create patterns using simple materials. For this time, we used blocks for the patterns. Each child got a chance to try copying 2-3 different patterns. This activity not only fosters creativity but also strengthens pattern recognition skills for critical thinking. The class absolutely loved it, and even asked if they can do it again!
Art
This week in art, we painted on fall leaves. Autumn is a magical time when the leaves change color and fall from the trees. So, we took orange, yellow, red and green paints and covered the leaves with these colors one by one. After that, we pressed the painted side of the leaf onto the paper to create a print. While painting we had a conversation about why leaves change color and fall during this season. This also helped the kids to connect with nature. Our class full of artists were so pleased with the result! We are very proud of them.
