This Week's Educational Fun In Pre-K!

Greetings dear parents!

How was your week? We hope you had a great week. In the Pre-K class, we had lots of fun and various engaging activities.

Large group

Our large group sessions were an absolute blast this week, as usual! Large group is a learning session with music, fun games, and learning through interactions with each other. During this time, we build our confidence and discuss ideas that interest us. This time is particularly helpful and important for students who feel shy or nervous to speak in front of people. Getting up in front of the whole class and reading the morning message or discussing something has helped their confidence and communication skills blossom!

Literacy

This week our literacy sessions focused on letter formation. Just by exploring one letter, the students can learn a myriad of things! For instance, letter formation and structure, tracing, coloring, the way letters and sounds relate to each other and so on. This week, we focused on the letter P and the “p” sound that it makes. We gave the students worksheets where they can explore “P” in various ways like tracing, coloring, and looking for images of things that start with “P”.  Then, at the end of the activity, they got a chance to express their creative sides, coloring in the pictures, which they absolutely loved! Letter formation and tracing activities are great ways to help our Pre-K class develop their writing skills and become familiar with the alphabet in a hands-on way.

Math

This week in math, we continued to build on the topic we started in the previous week- big and small numbers. The children got a chance to look at a set of numbers and circle the biggest number. Then, they tried the opposite and circled the smallest number in a sequence. They were so engaged and focused, and we are so proud of how far they have come in math! Recognizing smaller and larger numbers introduces children to basic math concepts like comparison and sequencing. It also builds their number sense, which is a critical skill for more advanced math later.

Science

This week's science session was related to "living and non-living things". Understanding the difference between living and non-living things is an exciting step in early science learning. Pre-K children are naturally curious, and this concept helps them explore and make sense of the world around them. We printed out pictures of animals, plants, and objects like furniture. Then, the children got to work- excitedly sorting them into two groups: Living and Non-Living things. After that they colored the objects in. This kind of activity helps build observation and critical thinking skills. It also allows the students to appreciate nature and the environment and understand the basics of science in a simple, relatable way.

Gymnastic

This week's gymnastics session was so much fun for our children! We started with a simple warm-up that consisted of different kinds of stretching. This helped prepare the children’s bodies for the gymnastics activity. Then, we had a hula hoop placed on the floor and inside the hula hoop we put some wooden blocks. After that, children came up two at a time to compete and see who could put one from one side to the other fastest. Each child got a chance and they absolutely loved the activity! One thing we love about this was how despite the competition, everyone was friendly and supportive of each other. After we did this, another fun activity we did was holding two small balls by stretching our hands, walking onto the balance bench, and walking on it. This segment was utterly energy packed!

Journal

A journal is a simple, yet engaging tool that helps young children start developing early literacy, fine motor, and self-expression skills. It’s typically a notebook where children are encouraged to draw pictures or colors, expressing their thoughts, feelings, or experiences visually. This weeks journal session was a hit, as usual! The children love getting chance to share the things that interest and inspire them, and we enjoy seeing their creations so much.
