Weekly Blog by Early Preschoolers

Greetings Dear Parents,

Another wonderful week has passed here at LE. Hope you all had a productive one.

Our Large Group

This week, we added one more activity on our message on our board, we started Zoophonics, and we have been exploring the letters sound and actions they make. We stick one word per day and would go back and try to recall to the previous letter we explored with the letters for this were ‘a-e’. We also reminded one another about our class rules and how we can be respectful for our circle time and small group time and also to each other. Number of the week was number 5, we continued explorations with the weather, days of the week, and our pattern for this week was AABBAABB.

Our Small Group

Music, Maths, Literacy, Science and Gymnastics

Musical Mondays: Explorations with musical instruments continued, starting from next week, we are going to work on how we can follow beats, rhythms. Exposing children to music helps their body and their mind to work together. Music helps children to learn new words, their sound and its meaning.

Maths: We sorted shapes, We had rectangle, square, circle and triangle shapes. We explored each shape, after that we prepared four boxes where we wanted to sort the different shapes. The activity was to sort the triangles in one tub, the circle in one box, the square in one box, and same goes for the rectangle one.

Art: On our art day, we explored with anew material, which was 'Bamboo', before starting with our session, we felt it the texture with our hands and discussed what can be made out of it, for example our hut; the art studio and the maker space is built out of bamboo. We then choose different colored paints we wanted to paint the bamboo. We then had a fun time making a beautiful art piece with a bamboo.

Literacy Wednesday: we had a new and exciting session for our literacy time. We had one of our friend Negede, join us and she brought the zoo animals with her. She had all the zoo animals on a paper, and we used them to learn our Alphabet letters, it is called Zoophonics! Sounds familiar? If you wish to know more about it, don’t hesitate to contact us. We were all happy to be introduced to each letter ‘A-Z’, we explored their sounds and their actions. They were familiar with some of the sounds and actions as we worked on them during our circle times.

Experimental Thursday (Sceince): We continued our gardening activity; we started by recalling what we did last week. They all remembered and replied, “watered our plants so they can grow”. We headed to our gardening area, and started observing if there is any change, if they have new green leaves, if they had dried up. We were really happy to see many green leaves and we analyzed our observation that the plants were growing because they were getting enough water and soil and air when they were thirsty. We cleaned fallen leaves and other waste materials, which were found around the garden area. Lastly we fetched water and watered our plants. However some of our seeds didn't sprout and grow to be a plant. That will be our exploration and discussion for the coming week.

Gymnastics: We stretched for a little bit then learned some new poses like cow and cat pose.
